Antifreeze & Automotive Fluids
Critical
Automotive products, especially antifreeze (ethylene glycol), are extremely dangerous. Antifreeze has a sweet taste and even small amounts can be rapidly fatal.
Signs of Antifreeze Poisoning (Ethylene Glycol):
- Stage 1 (30 mins - 12 hrs): Appears drunk, uncoordinated, excessive thirst, vomiting, lethargy.
- Stage 2 (12-24 hrs): Rapid breathing/heart rate, dehydration, possible deceptive improvement.
- Stage 3 (36-72 hrs): Severe kidney failure, depression, seizures, coma, death.
Toxic Amounts:
- Dogs: As little as 1.5ml/kg (approx. 1 tsp per 4.5 kg).
- Cats: As little as 0.5ml/kg.
Emergency First Aid:
- If you suspect ingestion, seek emergency veterinary care IMMEDIATELY.
- Treatment (antidote) is most effective within the first few hours.
- Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed by a vet.
- Bring the product container if possible.
CRITICAL - SEEK VET CARE
Antifreeze poisoning is rapidly fatal without immediate treatment. This is one of the most time-sensitive poisonings. Use pet-safe antifreeze (propylene glycol based) and clean up all spills immediately.
