Breed Overview

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "sausage dog," is famous for its long body, short legs, and bold personality. Originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers, their name literally means "badger dog." They come in two sizes (Standard and Miniature) and three coat types (Smooth, Long-haired, and Wire-haired). Despite their small size, they are courageous and have a big-dog bark, making them excellent watchdogs.
